Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born on October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is the first female vice presidency and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S history. A member of Democratic Party, she has previously served as attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and was a United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. After starting her career as an Alameda County District Attorney, Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Later she became the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003, she was elected district attorney of San Francisco. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and was elected again in 2014. Harris was the junior member of the United States Senate from California from 2017-2021. Harris beat Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election making her the 2nd African American woman to serve in Congress and the first South Asian American American to do so in the United States Senate. She was a senator and campaigned for reforms to healthcare as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented and the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. In the news, attention was paid to her outspoken questioning of Trump administration officials at Senate sessions. The most notable was Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual misconduct.
